Is Your Past Holding You Back?

The past has no power over the present moment.

Are you living in guilt, shame, and regret?

I know I’ve been guilty of that!

Many of the bad choices I’ve made in the past have been because of shame and guilt. I didn’t know how to love myself. I felt worthless and thought that I didn’t deserve better. I searched for fulfillment” in places that only gave me pleasure in moments at a time. I conformed to what everyone else was doing around me. Why? Because it was normal. Yet normal wasn’t always rewarding.

Those of you who follow my journey know that I’ve been walking with God for a bit over a year now and have gotten to witness His great work in my life. Life for me has made a complete change since I’ve been learning God’s way of living. Although there’s been moments of uncomfortable stretching of my faith, the rewards have been overwhelmingly amazing!

Recently, through enjoying my new life as a Christian, and singleness once again, I noticed fear started coming back again. Although i’m enjoying this season of life, one of my desires is to one day become a wife. I daydream walking down the isle in a beautiful wedding gown towards the man that God is preparing for me.

So, what’s the problem?

I became fearful and those thoughts came back to my mind and I felt guilt, shame, and regret again.

I realized that even though I forgave those who have hurt me in the past, I hadn’t fully forgiven myself. I was having thoughts like, “will he accept my past, or will he judge me?” and “i’ll probably make the wrong choice again.”

Through prayer and study from the word of God I realized, Im not who I used to be. Those choices I made in the past were because I didn’t love myself nor did I know who God was.

God forgives our past and He calls us to repentance each day. So why shouldn’t YOU forgive yourself and move on?

Thus says the Lord…

Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past.

Behold, will do something new, now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it?

will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” ~Isa. 43:16, 18-19

Choose to not focus on bad memories when they come to mind, but use them for goodness of helping others. Repent of your past mistakes and give them to God, and ask Him to guide your future. Where God guides, He provides.

Trust God, and Do Good 😉
